Govern for America resources state and local governments with top talent to address long-term workforce needs and realize their potential. We recruit diverse graduates with skills governments need, train them on effective, innovative approaches to government service and public sector entrepreneurship, and develop their leadership potential through sustained professional support throughout their fellowship experience. All GFA fellows commit a minimum of 2 years to government service and serve in full-time, paid roles to ensure that they fill a critical need in their host agency and see government as a viable career path.

As a GFA government partner, you can expect:

  • Exceptional Talent: GFA’s recruiting strategy and rigorous 4 stage application process provides access to top talent with in-demand skills like data analytics, policy development, performance management, and design. Less than 3% of applicants to GFA are accepted as fellows.

  • Professional Development: GFA delivers a flexible and customizable program that blends subject-matter and skills-based training with leadership development to build effective leaders.

  • Diverse Community: Fellows come to GFA with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences that reflect the communities we serve.

  • Better Outcomes: Fellows are prepared to leverage data and evidence-based policymaking strategies to improve service delivery and outcomes. Fellow placements and skill sets are based on what our government partners need and we are highly responsive to the requests of government partners.

  • Network of Leaders: GFA partners have the opportunity to connect with the League of Innovators, a community of leaders addressing public sector problems in innovative ways.
